‘Doogie Howser’ Reboot Starring A Mixed-Race Teenage Girl Is Officially A Go At Disney+
Looks like the age of TV reboots, revivals, and spinoffs is still in full swing. Now, it’s Disney+ that has its eye on a beloved teen classic. The newly launched streaming service has given an official series order to the female-led Doogie Howser, M.D. reboot. The upcoming series is aptly titled Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. and it will have a total of 10 episodes. While the original series launched Neil Patrick Harris into superstardom, the Disney+ series will chronicle the life of a mixed-race, 16-year-old girl. Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha has a burgeoning medical career and she’s only a teenager. Do you feel bad about yourself yet? In addition to being utterly brilliant, Lahela comes from a tight-knit family who can often be intrusive. Not only is Lahela’s mom the supervisor at the hospital she works at, but her father is struggling to get over the fact that Lahela isn’t a little kid anymore. Now, that sounds like the perfect set up for a half-hour comedy. The series will take place in modern-day Hawaii, so you can expect the view to be fabulous and relaxing. The original series, Doogie Howser, M.D., aired from 1989-1993. The reimagined, Disney+ version is hoping to launch the beloved show for an entirely new generation.
