Back From The Dead: ‘Riverdale’ Showrunner Eyes ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Reboot
Looks like “A” isn’t done with the Liars or Rosewood after all. Now this is a twist fans certainly didn’t see coming.According to The Hollywood Reporter, a potential Pretty Little Liars reboot is on the horizon thanks to Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The popular Freeform series ran for a whopping seven season from 2010 to 2017. It also turned Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, and Sasha Pieterse into overnight sensations. The twisted and often difficult to follow TV adaptation of PLL was based on Sara Shepards wildly beloved book series of the same name. The show followed a group of tight-knit, high school friends who were being blackmailed by their former friend who happened to be “dead.” PLL was ripe with convoluted mysteries, over-the-top murders, and plenty of plot holes. It also featured an onslaught of hideous fashion choices (we’re looking at you, Aria Montgomery). Let’s hope the reboot’s wardrobe department will make better choices for the sake of our eyeballs.Given the success of the show, several spin-offs were launched including Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. Unfortunately, both of these iterations were massive flops and were canceled after only season. Since PLL transformed Freeform (previously ABC Family) into the definitive destination for many young viewers, this news isn’t earth-shattering. We are living in a world of TV revivals and reboots, and it looks like that trend is far from over.
